The current AKP government has passed new regulations in 2013. According to the controversial new law, retailers are not able to sell alcoholic beverages after 10pm till 6am. The sale of alcohol will also not be permitted in areas close to places of worship or school districts.

This law doesn't affect the hospitality industry. Businesses such as hotels, restaurants, nightclubs can serve alcohol during their business hours. There is no limitation for these establishments. Legal drinking age is 18 in Turkey. The sale of alcohol and tobacco products are not permitted to underage population or travelers by law.

Note:  Raki prices increased from 9.15TL in 2002 to 51TL in 2012. The tax on beer increased 737% between 2002 and 2009.  The taxes have increased 45% between 2009 and 2010.
