Do Turkish people like Americans? Should I avoid talking about specific topics?

Turkish people pride themselves on their culture of hospitality. But avoid talking about the Armenian genocide or the Kurdish separatist movement, or any references to a place called "Kurdistan."

Americans are pretty well liked here. I'd still stay away from difficult topics, (wars, kurds, the end of the ottoman empire, etc) but most people seem to be excited I'm not from the E.U.
