Crazy about analog photography, screen printing, making and pimping stuff. Istanbul and spesifically Asmalı Mescit area just fits to it!
If you have a budget and appreciate some private hours just go for airbnb around Cihangir, Asmalı, Nişantaşı, Galata or Moda.
Else depending on your interest just go for internet. CouchSurfing was super fun before it reached mass, but still so many awesome people to meet from there, so it still worth have a first look. Other than that, ask to friends, friends of friends.. If you are passionate about coming to Istanbul just show it to people even virtually before coming here. I'm sure you'll get super duper places to crash with no cash ;)
Go for local food! During the day its best time to try Turkish house made style food. You can just yell around like "Esnaf Lokantası" /artisan restaurant/ and look for a crowd of old people eating and just grab a seat with a big smile on your face.
There are lots of really nice raki and fish places already listed at atdaa. at least one night you should experience it.
